Another knitathon? [Aug. 26th, 2007|09:50 pm]

tigrrgrr
Hey folks. I've been busier than a one legged man in an arse kicking contest (one of my grandma's favorite sayings) and haven't had a lot of knitting time. I've been working on that but I wanted to take a minute to say that just because I haven't had time to start up another knitathon doesn't mean you guys can't have one if you are wanting to.

Heck, I might even join! hahaha

So if anyone is interested in staring one up...go for it!

So i really did finish [Apr. 14th, 2007|02:43 pm]

I just never bothered to post pictures of the fruits of my labor.

I used up several things out of my stash. I have more UFOs than I started with, but that's a good thing for me. I was going nutty not having anything to knit!

I didn't take a picture of the finished crocheted dress yet, but if you look back it was pretty close, so you can imagine. =)

Image heavy because apparently I'm insane )

I lose at UFO's! [Apr. 10th, 2007|01:55 pm]

What a weak month for knitting for me. :cP I had 2 UFO's at the beginning of the month. I decided to just frog one of them, a pair of mittens, since it would no longer be cold enough for them(or so I thought! Grrrrrr) and they wouldn't fit my son next winter. The other I did work on, but am just so bored with the back and forth knitting that I didn't finish. It's not even a big project! Boo!

Instead, I started two more projects that I also didn't finish, bringing my UFO count up to 3. Ha! I went backwards. :cP

Here are some pictures of the new projects in progress, though.

Today's the last day, right? [Apr. 10th, 2007|08:57 am]

Whether it's the last day or not, I'm calling it quits! ;) I've been in UFO purgatory long enough.

You can see my last FO's on my blog.

Long story short, I was aiming for 10 FOs and managed to get 11 done and I'm left with 7 still on the needles.

It looks like the [info]noyarnforayear community will be declaring May the Month of the UFO, so before that starts, I've got 3 projects I need to get started because I NEED them (or WANT them) and then hopefully in May I'll be able to get my UFOs down to 4. Most of what is left are fairly major undertakings, so my goals aren't quite so impressive for next time.

Slated to be added to the needles in the coming days: linen kitchen sheers, silk/wool blend gauntlets, and a project from Victorian Lace Today. The first two shouldn't take so very long, but the last one is most likely going to be one of my major undertakings!

Anyway, yay! And Phew! The UFO knitathon didn't kill me afterall!

A "what to do with this yarn?" post [Mar. 31st, 2007|03:16 pm]

[mood |curiouscurious]

I've been pretty bad about getting my UFO done(yeah, I pretty much just have the one) or using any of my stash yarn. I just haven't been feelin' it. So I went digging through my stash to see if there was anything fun in there that would get me in the knitting mood.

Among all the different yarns in my stash, I found a bag I had been given a loooong time ago from my mom. It was given to her as well many, many years before that. It's a bag full of tiny skeins of vintage yarn. Fun! I'll have to take a picture so you can see the funny ball band. The band says it is "Hermit" brand yarn from England and it has a picture of a funny little Hillbilly with a corncob pipe. It is a 70% mohair, 30% wool blend of DK yarn and it's fuzzy. It reminds me a little of the eyelash novelty yarn, but its fuzz is nowhere near as long. I have at least 12 skeins that are 1 ounce each. It's a really nice, deep red. I am at a loss with what to do with it, but it seems like such a fun yarn. I am guessing it will have to be knit along with another yarn. Knit by itself it would be rather itchy, I would imagine, being mostly mohair and all. Either that or just used as trim on something. ? So... what to do with this yarn???

Also I found two 50g balls of Plymouth Yarn Alpaca Boucle in black. It's so very soft and bumpy. I have no idea what to do with it though. Only 100g. Hrm. I dunno. I like to pet it, though. :c) What to do with this yarn??

I don't want to do things like scarves or hats because I have been there done that too many times and it's not scarf or hat weather anymore.

Some kind of shawl or wrap? The mohair might bit too itchy for that, but then it doesn't feel too awful. Maybe after it was washed it would feel better. I don't have enough of the alpaca for a shawl.

Edit: Maybe I could make Mrs. Beeton wristwarmers with some of the mohair. That would be cool!

One finish and one almost there [Mar. 29th, 2007|11:15 pm]

I've done a mad rush to get these two pieces done before we leave for England on Sunday. Looks like I'm going to make that deadline, since all I have to do is attach one sleeve and sew on 4 buttons.

The first is a shrug for myself. It's a little bit large for me, but I think it's going to be ok. I can just wrap it around myself that much more. It was based on Matador in the Fall 2006 Knit scene. The yarn is some that I bought off of ebay. It's from a seller called JOJOLAND, and it's the DK melody, I think.

The second is almost done, as you can see. This is for my 5 year old. The sleeves go just past the elbows and the sweater will be slightly cropped, though I'm figuring that I could easily add to the bottom to make it last longer. This is one I designed myself, using one of the Cascade cotton yarns.

2 more FOs! [Mar. 23rd, 2007|10:52 pm]

[mood |bouncybouncy]

I finished my ball band dishrag at work on Wednesday. I just had to bind off when I got home because I didn't have one size up needles to bind off with.

I started something new last night. It's from the skein on the very top right of my newest stash additions picture that I posted before. I did a little crocheted bag. I made up the pattern sort of based on another pattern. It's just a little clutch. I'll take pictures tomorrow probably.

I am almost finished with the crocheted dress too. I'm going to finish the very last row before bed tonight and then I just need to do the finishing stuff. I'm so close!!!! I never thought I'd finish it.

Then after that I have NOTHING cast on. NOTHING in progress, etc. My intentions for the rest of the knitathon are to use as much of my stash and use up what I can. =)

Finished vest! [Mar. 20th, 2007|03:05 pm]

Here is the finished vest. Yay! I'll have to wait until he wakes up to make sure that it fits over his head, but it should. I didn't tie it off yet just in case.

Pictures of some in progress stuff and a couple finished! )

(no subject) [Mar. 20th, 2007|09:18 am]

Another FO (a washcloth) and progress reports on a few other UFOs on my craft blog.

You know, there are far too many of these projects lying around that just need to be lined and/or just needed 30-40 minutes worth of knitting or assembly.

I have issues.

One almost down... [Mar. 20th, 2007|08:51 am]

janaya
I just whipped up a stash-busting Booga bag with some noro that was gifted to me for my birthday last April. I will felt it today. It was too girly for Avery longies, then I was holding out to see if I was having a girl baby, then I couldn't decide what to use it for. I thought I could use a booga bag as my knitting bag - usually my projects will fit inside just fine, or at least just the part I'm working on if I ever truly branch into sweaters someday. ;)

Now I'm starting a pair of felted clogs. They don't exactly qualify as a knitathon project, as I had to buy supplies. BUT I'd made my midwife a pair of LTK's felted clogs in the woman's size (as a thank you), and i HATE their shape. They definitely qualify as a "Grandma knit me this and I wear it as not to offend her" type project - not the kind of thank you I want to give Lisa, who is constantly raving at my knitted items. So I went and got the Fiber Trends pattern and more Cascade 220. I have a pair of these my friend gave me three years ago, and they're holding up great. They have a much thicker sole than the LTKs (double knit, and two layers at that) and the fit works much better for grown up feet. I'll stick to LTKs pattern for wee feet, and this one for grown ups. ANYWAY.

After I finish the clogs, I'll move on to my UFO that I've been trying to ignore for the last month or so - Avery's Accordian sweater. I have to figure out a way to fix the front sections so they are the same length as the back section. Then I have one sleeve to do and then the collar and piecing and figuring out how to sew in a zipper to a knitted item!

My stash is looking quite a bit better under control. I still have those six gorgeous skeins of NZ brushed alpaca staring at me begging me to figure out a use for them, and one skein of brushed merino, a few balls of cotton to make into baby hats and wash cloths. Other than that, it's just odds and ends, an impressive feat for me. This stash diet feels good, especially before my Malabrigo co-op score shows up in a month or so. :/ :D
